The Art of Romare Bearden 2004 Weekly Engagement Calendar
Romare Bearden (1911–1988) lived and worked during a period of extraordinary unrest in American society and art. His oeuvre included collage and photomontage; watercolor, oil, and monotype; designs for the stage and book illustrations; and edition prints. This calendar presents thirty-two remarkable works based on Bearden's experiences in the rural South, the urban North, and the Caribbean; they include musicians, street scenes, domestic interiors, and landscapes. They are part of a 2003 retrospective exhibition at the National Gallery of Art that travels to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Dallas Museum of Art, and they Whitney Museum of American Art through January 2005. The calendar includes international holidays, moon phases, international calling codes, and space for notes.
