I Paint My House by Margaret Courtney-Clarke 2004 Deluxe Wall Calendar
The acclaimed photojournalist Margaret Courtney-Clarke has observed that "The unique artistic traditions of women in Africa are vanishing, just as the cultures that gave birth to them are vanishing." Courtney-Clarke's contribution to history has been to capture images of these traditions and ensure that they are preserved. In the African regions where adobe is used in construction, women paint their clay homes with bold, symbolic designs in brilliant colors. Berber women in North Africa decorate their pottery according to ancient traditions. These pursuits, as well as textile, ceramics, and body-adorning arts, are featured in this calendar. Courtney-Clarke's photographs introduce the viewer to strikingly different worlds that have—thus far—survived the storms of recent centuries. The calendar lists international holidays as well as moon phases.
